Teen Services: Volunteering & Service

Your guide to all things teen at Saratoga Springs Public Library

SSPL Teen Volunteer Program

Here at Saratoga Springs Public Library, we are looking for teenagers who are interested in serving their community while working towards building a thriving teen presence at our library! We offer three volunteer sessions throughout the year: Summer, Fall, and Winter. We accept approximately 20-25 teen volunteers during each of these sessions. Volunteers must be in grades 7-12.

Jobs that teens will assist with range from helping our Youth Librarians with children's programs, preparing craft projects, creating displays, and other tasks that will improve library services to teens.

Information meetings will be held before the start of each session and the available volunteer opportunities will be provided. Teens must be registered for the meeting, which can be located on the library's event calendar under teen programs.

That's okay! We offer rolling admission to our volunteer program. Fill out our Teen Volunteer Application and submit it in person at the Children's Desk on the lower floor of the library or via email to sar-teen@sals.edu. You will be contacted about whether there are any current teen volunteer opportunities available.

Teen Advisory Board (TAB)

WHAT IS IT? : Our Teen Advisory Board is an additional community service opportunity which allows teens to have their voices heard at the library and ultimately improve Teen Services in our library. (Yes, you can get community service hours for being a member!)

WHO CAN JOIN? : TAB is open to teens in grades 7-12.

WHAT DO YOU DO? : As a service group, teens work together to suggest and create ideas for future teen programs, teen room changes, books suggestions for the teen collection, and assist with library events.

HOW OFTEN DO YOU MEET? : We meet the first Monday of every month in the Teen Room. Snacks and drinks are provided! (If the first Monday happens to fall on a holiday, TAB will meet the following Monday)

WHAT IS YOUR GOAL? : TAB aims to create a space and programs for teens that they actually enjoy and through our discussions at our monthly meetings, incorporate feedback from teens on what they want.

WHY JOIN TAB? : Not only can TAB provide you with community service hours, but it is also a great addition to your job and college applications! TAB is a fun way to get involved with your local community and make new friends while building leadership skills.
