Summer Reading 2023 for Kids and Teens

How the program works

The summer reading program is for kids and teens ages 3-18.  Register online through ReadSquared and start reading!  Registration opens on June 19 and you have until August 15 to read and log your minutes.

What should I read?

Anything you want! Books, magazines, graphic novels- even audio books count.

Can I read with my family or friends?

Absolutely! All reading counts. If you read to someone or they read to you. You can even read to your goldfish if you want. If a family shares a book together, then all of the children and teens in the family get to log the minutes.

What are the prizes?

When you register for summer reading your first prize is a free book- after registering online stop in to the library to pick up your book.

Then for every 300 minutes of reading you log, you can stop in to pick up a prize from our treasure chest or teen loot crate. The chest and the crate have a variety of cool things to choose from. We even have coupons for special things donated from local businesses like Stewarts, the Friends of Saratoga Springs Public Library.

If you can complete 1500 minutes this summer, you get a special library t-shirt!

PLUS:

Not only is reading good for us, it can be a way to give back to our library.  In 2022, kids logged over 276,000 minutes and teens logged over 136,000 minutes.  This year, the library is going to get some very special items to use or loan if we can read enough.

If kids can log 100,000 minutes the library will get a new Lego set and some board games for the lounge on the ground floor.

If teens can log 100,000 minutes the library will get a new TV or projector for the teen room.

If kids and teens combined can log 215,000 minutes this summer, the library will get an Ozobot Evo entry kit to loan. Then everyone can take turns borrowing these cool robots.

If kids and teens can all together log at least 450,000 minutes the library will get a Nintendo Switch with some video games to loan.

Summer Teen Volunteers

summer volunteers

Are you interested in volunteering this Summer at the library? Our teen volunteers not only help us with tasks that need to be done, but they bring their own special talents to our library, too! Teens in grades 7-12 (ages 12-18) are invited to come to our information meeting and find out how they can assist us! Teen volunteers must attend a one-hour training session with teen librarian, AnnaRae. It will be held in the Susman room on the Children's floor. You need to register online for this meeting to volunteer this Summer!

If you can't make the meeting or you have additional questions, please contact our teen librarian directly.

Looking to create more impact? The library's Teen Advisory Board will be starting back up in August. Check the events calendar for more details and registration.
