The summer reading program is for kids and teens ages 3-18. Register online through ReadSquared and start reading! Registration opens on June 17 and you have until August 30 to read and log.
This year, teens are playing book bingo and kids are logging minutes!
What should I read?
Anything you want! Books, magazines, graphic novels- even audio books count.
Can I read with my family or friends?
Absolutely! All reading counts. If you read to someone or they read to you. You can even read to your goldfish if you want. If a family shares a book together, then all of the children in the family get to log the minutes.
What are the prizes?
When you register for summer reading your first prize is a free book- after registering online stop in to the library to pick up your book.
For kids, every 300 minutes of reading you log, you can stop in to pick up a prize from our treasure chest . The chest has a variety of cool things to choose from. We even have coupons for special things donated from local businesses like Stewart's, the Friends of Saratoga Springs Public Library.
If you can complete 1800 minutes this summer, you get a special library t-shirt!
Teens will log their reading to complete a bingo line. There are a variety of gift cards to choose from and teens can complete up to 2 bingos!
PLUS:
Not only is reading good for us, it can be a way to give back to our library. In 2023, kids logged over 400,000 minutes. This year, the library is going to get some very special items to use or loan if we can read enough.
If kids can log 100,000 minutes the library will get a new board games for the lounge on the lower level.
If kids and teens combined can log 225,000 minutes this summer, the library will get a new science experiment for the children's room.
If kids can log at least 425,000 minutes the library will get a Nintendo Switch with some video games to use at programs.
Since teens are playing bingo we will be tracking how many books they log. If teens log 150 books we will get some 3D pens for the teen room.
If teens can log 300 books we will get a VR headset and games for the teen room.
Are you interested in volunteering this Summer at the library? Our teen volunteers not only help us with tasks that need to be done, but they bring their own special talents to our library, too! Teens in grades 7-12 (ages 12-18) are invited to come to our information meeting and find out how they can assist us! Teen volunteers must attend a one-hour training session with teen librarian, AnnaRae. It will be held in the Susman room on the Children's floor. You need to register online for this meeting to volunteer this Summer!
If you can't make the meeting or you have additional questions, please contact our teen librarian directly.
Looking to create more impact? The library's Teen Advisory Board is always accepting new members.
