Borrowing eBooks From the Library: Special Directions for basic Kindles

Borrowing Books on your Kindle

Please note, these instructions are for basic Kindle devices, not the Kindle Fire or Kindle Fire HD.

Step 1

Use a computer, tablet, or smartphone to open the website salon.sspl.org.

Step 2

On the website click "Sign In" in the top right corner. Type in your library card number. Then, use the advanced search or search filters to find an eBook that's available in the Kindle Book format (or, look for the "Available formats" on each title's details page).

Step 3

Once you have found a book that you want, click Borrow. You will then have to click on the gray box that says "Read now with kindle." You will be taken to Amazon's website to complete your checkout.

Step 4

On Amazon's website, follow the on-screen prompts to "Get Library Book" and wirelessly deliver the book to your Kindle device or reading app. (Once you click "Get Library Book," the book will be automatically delivered to your Kindle if you are connected to Wi-Fi.) You'll need to sign in to your Amazon account to complete this process. If you don't have an Amazon account, you'll be prompted to create one.

Note: Library books require a Wi-Fi connection for download to Kindle devices. If you do not have an available Wi-Fi connection, you will need to transfer the eBook via USB.

Once you deliver a library Kindle Book to your device or reading app, it works like any other Kindle Book.

Returning Books

If you finish a book early, you can return the book by going to your Amazon account and going to the "Manage Your Content and Devices" page.
